Renewvia's strong track record can be measured in several ways. In Africa, we have grown from operating two minigrids in 2018 to four in 2019 and over 20 in 2021, growing our customer base from 164 in 2018 to 10,000+ today. We have seen steady increases in consumption at every commissioned minigrid, demonstrating customers' buy-in to our service. In the United States, we have built a growing portfolio in solar designs over the past several years. We serve multiple industries across the country with our customized designs including rooftop, ground-mount, and canopy installations to provide clients with clean, reliable, cost-efficient power.
Renewvia is committed to help meet the UN's SDG global targets for 2030. Renewvia directly and indirectly contributes to many of these targets, specifically the following:
Once connected to our minigrids, customers will switch from kerosene and other fuels to clean energy, and this also brings significant savings to households. Off-grid solar is not only cheaper for customers than kerosene and traditional fuel alternatives, but it also has the added benefits of being safer, healthier, more reliable, and better for the environment.
ECONOMIC GROWTH
With the addition of Renewvia's minigrids into communities throughout Kenya and Nigeria, citizens not only have access to clean and reliable power, but electricity allows business days to be longer and greater opportunities for work. This access and growth of opportunity within the community enables a household to increase their monthly income.
HEALTH
Much like with economic growth, access to reliable power means greater access to clinics and improved healthcare due to longer operating days. Access to renewable energy also eliminates the use of harmful materials including coal and kerosene leading to long-term health benefits throughout the communities.
PRODUCTIVITY
Access to Renewvia's minigrids allows communities to work later, students to study longer, and general productivity to increase. With electricity, communities are able to invest in small household appliances that improve their quality of life and make their usual activities on a day to day basis more time efficient.
SAFETY
In addition to communities feeling safer with access to outdoor and indoor lighting, less travel through dark, dangerous areas to charge phones decreases ones exposure to unsafe situations. In addition, access to quality outdoor lighting means less risk of theft and encounters with animals as well as fewer fire-related incidents caused by the use of kerosene lights and appliances.
GENDER EQUALITY
Access to Minigrid electricity provides women and girls with the opportunity to increase their daily productivity. Water is now more readily accessible throughout the community, freeing up girls' days to attend school with the boys. Greater access to reliable electricity decreases the gender equality gap by allowing women the time to be more involved in household and community decisions that are usually up to men.
Meet Judith
Judith is one of our customers on Ringiti Island in Kenya. She uses power from Renewvia's minigrid on the island to blend bananas and mangos into drinks for sale. Having access to affordable and reliable electricity has increased her business activity and given her the ability to create another source of income in her shop.
Meet Lydia & Nelly
Lydia and Nelly, ages 21 and 24, are standing inside and outside their homes in Nakukulas Village in rural Kenya. They live with their young sons in homes called Manyattas that are made mostly out of clay and branches. With access to power from Renewvia's minigrid in the village, both Lydia and Nelly now have light after dark and the ability to charge their phones at home. This saves them time and money by not having to buy kerosene for their lanterns and not having to travel to charge their phones elsewhere. Both women say that they feel safer and healthier having reliable lights after dark and not breathing in the fumes from the kerosene lantern.

INCREASING SUSTAINABILITY
One of the best ways to measure the impact of renewable energy is to calculate the Carbon Dioxide emissions that are being offset by the renewable source. Based off of detailed state data provided by the EIA (U.S. Energy Information Administration), the example above provides a scale for how much emissions can be offset through a single investment in solar. Based off the same data, the example below provides a scale for not only one solar Investment, but multiple solar investments within a portfolio.
